Program Overview
In a span of 6 hours, Typhoon Karding (85 mph) reached super typhoon intensity (155 mph) last September 25 — equivalent to a category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic. The country had also issued an extreme emergency alert as #KardingPH approached before it made landfall as a super typhoon in Burdeos, Quezon. It followed by another landfall as a typhoon in Dingalan, Aurora, in the evening. It then crossed Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Zambales, before emerging over Zambales’ coastal waters early Monday, September 26.
It brought large waves and storm surge, torrential rains, and winds across majority of Luzon. With water supply systems and electric infrastructure likely to be damaged or flooded, access to clean water becomes an immediate need.
#KardingPH also came a day before the 13th anniversary of #TyphoonOndoy — the most devastating tropical cyclone to hit Manila with eerily similar sustained winds of 155mph.
