On March 28th, 2025 a  7,7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar - and was heavily felt in Thailand. 
The aim is to raise funds to help ensure the population of the most affected areas of Myanmar has access to potable, clean, water in the aftermath of the disaster.

I will be going on a mission with Operation Smile for two week at the end of may and June! I want to be able to raise enough money for 50 filters to be able to give to famillies with unsustainable water supply.

Project Summary:

This fundraiser honors the memory of Samuel Grumet, whose dream was to become a Navy SEAL, by supporting a cause that embodies the SEAL values of courage, commitment, and service: providing clean water to communities in need. In partnership with Waves For Water, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing clean water solutions around the globe, the Samuel Grumet Memorial Fund will sponsor veterans to participate in their clean water initiatives. These veterans, embodying the spirit of Samuel's aspirations, will use their skills and experience to implement sustainable solutions, such as distributing water filters, constructing wells, and educating communities on water health and hygiene.

Why Clean Water?

Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, yet millions around the world lack this basic necessity.  The consequences are devastating, including:

Disease: Waterborne illnesses are a leading cause of death, particularly among children.
Poverty: Lack of clean water hinders economic development and perpetuates cycles of poverty.
Inequality: Marginalized communities are disproportionately affected by water scarcity.

Veterans, many of whom share Samuel's dedication to service and country, possess unique skills and qualities that make them ideal for this mission:

Help me raise money for these great filters to help my sister and her neighbors in the little town of old Fort North Carolina. They were hit pretty hard, as were most areas of Western North Carolina. Some of these little towns aren’t getting a whole lot of help right now  They will be without clean water for a while and simple filter systems like this will help the residents there who have nowhere to go. This also helps them not use all of those nasty plastic bottles!

A escassez de água no sertão Nordestino do Brasil é um desafio que afeta milhares de famílias, resultando em consequências graves, especialmente para as crianças. A falta de acesso a água limpa e segura coloca em risco a saúde e o bem-estar dessas comunidades, contribuindo para problemas de saúde e até mesmo produzindo uma alimentação saudável.

No entanto, existe uma iniciativa transformadora que tem o potencial de mudar essa realidade. Através do uso inovador das águas dos rios, açúcares e lagoas locais, e com a ajuda de tecnologias como o filtro da "Wave For Water", é possível purificar a água e torná-la adequada para o consumo humano. Com apenas um balde e um filtro, é possível abastecer 100 famílias.

A importância de levar água limpa para as famílias do sertão nordestino vai além de apenas atender a uma necessidade básica. É um ato de solidariedade e de cuidado com o próximo. Ao unir esforços e recursos para implementar projetos como esse, podemos fazer a diferença na vida de tantas pessoas, garantindo que tenham acesso a água pronta para o consumo.

Ajude a Levar Água Limpa para o Sertão Nordestino!

Over a week has passed since the major flooding in Rio Grande do Sul (Southern Brazil), and four-fifths of the population of Porto Alegre is without running water. 90 people have been reported dead and more than 130 others missing. The most urgent need is drinking water, as supplies are being rationed due to severely damaged infrastructure.

Weather across South America is currently affected by the climate phenomenon El Niño, a periodic event that warms surface waters in the Equatorial Pacific region. In Brazil, El Niño has historically caused droughts in the north and intense rainfall in the south.

Damage from the rains has already forced more than 150,000 people from their homes. An additional 50,000 have taken refuge in temporary shelters. Experts say there is also growing public health risk as much of the region remains submerged, warning of water-related diseases such as dengue fever and leptospirosis.

Waves For Water is responding with our local team on the ground. With water infrastructure damaged and sources contaminated, we aim to address the immediate need for clean water access by deploying point-of-use filtration systems.

Over 11 million people in Madagascar have no access to safe water. As many women & children are still spending hours each day to collect unsafe water. The dependence on brackish water, tested as bad bacteriological quality and below WHO-standards present an urgent health problem. Distant situated water sources and waiting a long time to collect water, two or three times a day, makes the supply of water a daily challenge for the people. The water challenges disproportionately affect women and children as they are given the responsibility of securing household water, thus negatively affecting their ability to enjoy their right to health, education and self-development.

Join us in making a real impact in the lives of communities in La Guajira through the "Clean Water for La Guajira" initiative. LLed by the Global Shapers Hubs of Riohacha and Providence together with the organization Humble King, this community-driven project aims to provide access to clean water and basic sanitation to families facing water challenges in the region. La Guajira has been struggling with significant issues related to drought and the lack of clean water access, and together with the nonprofit organization Waves For Water, we're committed to addressing this crisis and improving the living conditions of the affected communities.

Our project goals include:

Providing basic sanitation and clean water to families in communities lacking this vital resource.
Empowering young people and families to raise awareness about the importance of water and sustainable living.
Facilitating a cultural exchange between communities and Global Shapers from various Hubs in Colombia, latam and providence, celebrating their unique indigenous languages and traditions.
Promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, ensuring no one is left behind and translating all 17 SDGs into indigenous languages in La Guajira.
Promoting innovation in water management and sustainable development through collaboration with local organizations to ensure lasting and measurable impact.
