Fiji // Cyclone Winston Relief Initiative

Project Overview

Waves For Water is mobilizing to help with the disaster relief in Viti Levu, Fiji where tens of thousands of people are still homeless after Cyclone Winston hit the island on February 20th, 2016. This storm was the most powerful ever recorded in the Southern Hemisphere, with winds up to 323 kilometres per hour, offshore swells reaching 12 metres and reports of widespread damage.

With initial support from the World Surf League and intel from Yacht Aid Global, Waves For Water will respond with clean water systems to help the people of Fiji. Aid workers have warned that potential outbreaks of viruses carried by mosquitos could further devastate the nation, with dirty stagnant water remaining in many areas. Executive Director, Christian Troy is spearheading the effort transporting water filtration supplies to the affected areas.
